Background
Andrew Haythornthwaite is a designer and maker based in London. Originally from rural New Zealand, with an Industrial Design degree from Massey University. Early career in product design in Hong Kong, co-founding a studio for the Knirps umbrella brand. Master's at the Royal College of Art under Ron Arad. London-based ever since. Permanent works in the Design Museum, London and MoMA, New York.
Scope
The studio works between sculpture, furniture, lighting, and small-run product design. The practice is built around two things: observations in the natural world, and the straightforward mechanical processes that translate those observations into objects.
Products
Selected pieces from the studio are available through Shop, including the Slugs and Tadpoles barware range — cast and finished by hand in stainless steel, brass, bronze, copper, and carbon steel.
